What you should know about your traineeship in Freiburg / Germany:
Germanys IAESTE National Office is located in Bonn and is part of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The administrative issues of your traineeship will be arranged there.
The local point of IAESTE Germany in Freiburg (LC Freiburg) is run by a group of a few students, who don’t get paid for their work.
We here in Freiburg will arrange your accomodation, meet you when you arrive and help you to get in touch with your employer and the public authorities.
We will also contact you on a regular basis during your traineeship in Freiburg.
After you got your acceptance papers from IAESTE Germany:
- Be sure to apply for a visa if necessary (the application period sometimes takes up to 8 – 12 weeks)
- Send back the “N5b” form as soon as possible and enclose a copy of a document stating that your training is compulsory according to your course of study
- Contact our LC in Freiburg under iaeste-freiburg@gmx.de and don’t hesitate to ask anything you want to know about your time in Freiburg.
After your arrival in Freiburg:
- According to IAESTE rules you are obliged to have a health, liability and accident insurance during the time you spend in Germany. As just a few foreign insurances are valid in Germany, you are obliged to take out the DAAD insurance (23,50 Euro per month). We will give you more information about this personally.
- Your salary is normally paid at the end of each month according to the amount stated on the form “O”. It will cover your costs for living in Germany (rent, food, telephone…).
- Be sure to bring enough money (about 600 Euro) to cover your expenses until you get your first salary.
Things you should bring with you:
- towels
- bedclothes
- clothes for every kind of weather (it is sometimes raining during the summer and raining during the winter; but it can also be very hot during the summer
Things we have to offer:
- you can rent a bycycle
- you have also the possibility to use all public transportation in and around Freiburg with the “Regio Ticket”
- we can borrow you beddings and pillows
- meetings: you will have contact ot IAESTE members and other trainees regularly; we celebrate international evenings, where everybody is welcome to introduce some special things about his country like food, music, cultural events …
- There will also be IAESTE meetings in other german cities where you can meet the local IAESTE team and a lot of trainees from all over Germany.
